I pretty much already talked about them in a previous post, but I felt like they deserved a whole post, as part of my Non-stop Play Me series.
The four piece band with Austin (Vocals), Zachary (Drums), Higgy (Guitar) and Cavan (joined as a bassist, who ironically can't play bass), seemed to appear out of no where last year with their infectious début single, King City. They made ~b-town~ look cool and gained fans all over the world (including me, sup, hey). They are careless, charismatic, effortless and cool. With their catchy-dreamy-grunge-pop tunes, they are just good friends, having a good time, making good music to make you have a good time. Seriously after hearing King City I was inspired to go outside and climb a tree or something. It's liberating stuff. Really.
They are kind of like the "alternative" version of One Direction, already gaining obsessive cult like teen girl tumblr fans (me? of course not!). Except with a inimitable 90's grunge style blended with pop. I am only semi-kidding.
Their songs deliberately stick in your head for days. They say they want to get out of grey Birmingham to the alluring sunshine in California, as they sing about escapism, dreams and simply feeling good. With key lines such as "Don't just dream it your sleep, its just lazy" and "With the sun on my back, yea it's a nice day". The vocalist and songwriter, Austin says "Pondering on the future makes me think so much about the present; the only real thing is the present and that’s gonna be the past soon so you get such motivation to really do something that makes your world good". One of the main things I find so appealing about this band, is their looking-upward themes and feel good messages in the songs.
Now signed with Chess Club Records, they have released their latest single The Sea with the b-side, a Led Zeppelin cover, Down by the Sea, and an EP coming this March. They are motivated, they are determined, they dream big and work it out from there. It may be sooner than they think that they will be chilling on a sunny beach in Malibu, with beer and crisps in hand.
